Black Tadelakt Tall Vase
Named for the Arabic word dellaka, "to rub in," this craft was first born two millennia ago to seal the humid walls of Moroccan hammams. Sun-dried clay is kneaded into form, then hand-coated with lime-plaster and laboriously polished with river stones and olive-oil soap until it takes on smooth, marble-like sheen. Shapes vary, but each carries the warmth of its technique and the temper of its materials. Decorative only, neither food-safe nor fully waterproof. A liner is required, should you choose to house fresh flowers.
